In the Bible (New Testament, Matthew 22:37), Jesus (Yeshua, in Hebrew and Aramaic) says that we must “love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind.” Great, so how do we do this? According to great sages like Swami Sivananda and Swami Krishnananda, we meditate on the Sacred Syllable OM, which Sivananda calls “the greatest name of God” in his book “OM Meditation and Mandukya Upanishad.” There are three general realms of being: body, mind, and spirit, says Swami Sivananda. OM meditation allows us to disconnect from both matter and mind and center in Divine Spirit (Brahman, in Sanskrit). Deep in silence and stillness, one can eventually hear the Cosmic OM sound and energy vibration. That is the Sacred Syllable OM, the Name/Word of God. By meditating on this Holy Sound, one merges with God and “loves” God in a complete way.
