I am in my 50s now and have seen many things in my lifetime. I have seen and gotten to know monks and ascetics. I have seen and gotten to know business people. I have seen and gotten to know religious people. I have seen and gotten to know atheists and agnostics. I have seen and gotten to know motivated and unmotivated people. Moral of the story? A vast majority of these individuals ended up deviating greatly from the path they advocated when I knew them. Their path did not work out. Why? Simple. They did not take the path of moderation, e.g. the middle path. Their path in some way was an extreme path. And this path led to failure and demise. Materialists – attention – someone can rob you financially or health can rob you of your money and peace. Ascetics – attention – if you deny your body, you will easily fall ill and potentially put your life in danger. So, what is the solution? It is here in the image above: the middle path. Moderate food. Moderate sleep. Moderate work. Moderate studies. Moderate travel. Moderate friendship and social interaction. Moderate prayer and meditation. Balance (moderation) is what will help you slowly and steadily make progress in life without ending up sick or destitute. Thank you for this timeless lesson, Lord Buddha. Namaste.
