In ancient Indian Sanskrit, the word “guru” means “dispeller of darkness”. The “guru” could be a person. It could be a prayer. It could be a teaching. According to Swami Sivananda, author of “Meditation on OM”, the Sacred Syllable OM is the true “guru” behind the scenes. The human being assuming the role of guru is just a mode of presentation, because we are people and can best associate with and understand a human being of higher wisdom. Still, beyond the appearance of form is Pure, Formless, Divine Spirit, Whose Being radiates “OM” in a timeless and transcendental sense. May all living beings awaken to “OM”. Namaste.
