The Spiritual Master who brought Kriya Yoga from India to the United States in the early 1900s was Paramahansa Yogananda. He was the direct disciple of Swami Sri Yukteswar (author of “The Holy Science”), who was a direct disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya (author of “The Omkar Gita, in Light of Kriya Yoga”), who was a direct disciple of the legendary Kriya Yogi Babaji who still lives in the Himalayas and is said to be nearly one-thousand years old, but who only appears infrequently to specific individuals. In his famous book “Autobiography of a Yogi”, Yogananda writes that “OM (AUM) of the Vedas eventually became the Sacred Word Hum of the Tibetans, Amin of the Muslims, and Amen of Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Jews, and Christians. In the Bible, the word Amen is connected to the beginning of the creation of the Universe – these things sayeth the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God (Revelation 3:14).” Namaste.
