OM Belongs to Humanity

Some people ask me “Keith, is OM meditation a Hindu practice?” I usually tell them that there are many aspects of the Hindu faith that still use “OM” as part of the worship process. I also tell them that OM can be found in other eastern practices like Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. However, OM – in and of itself – is a revelation to and through the ancient-most Himalayan Rishis (Meditation Seers) to benefit humanity. Judaism and Christianity use Amen in prayer, and this is a sound variation of OM, according to Kriya Yoga Master Paramahansa Yogananda. The practice of OM meditation predates any one religion, including Hinduism. So, in my view, OM is true Spiritual Science and the very first revelation of God (as Brahman, Divine/Supreme Spirit) to humanity. If you read the diverse Upanishads, you will see that OM is the common definitive word that designates and describes our Divine Source. OM belongs to humanity for the sake of prayer, meditation, and approaching God, our Divine Source. Namaste.
