Toward the end of his life, Lord Buddha imparted a great mantra to his most advanced disciples: “Om Mani Padme Hum”. This mantra has two meanings. In Hinduism, it means “Om is the Jewel of the Lotus”. In other words, OM is the most precious mantra in all of material creation (the lotus). In Buddhism, each syllable of the mantra symbolizes a plane of being and who is there – gods, demigods, humans, animals, ghosts, underworld beings. So, each time this mantra is chanted, you are helping to liberate beings from these realms and into spiritual freedom, or what the Buddha calls Nirvana. Either way, Om Mani Padme Hum is a blessed mantra and spiritual prayer that benefits all beings in all walks of life and in all existential realms. The 14th Dalai Lama once wrote that “it is good to chant Om Mani Padme Hum”. I agree! Namaste.
